FABRICATED is the past tense of the verb ‘to fabricate’ which has three meanings.

1 If you fabricate something such as a story or piece of information, you deliberately invent it even though it is untrue, in order to deceive people. Example – They fabricated evidence and threatened witnesses. He was late, so he fabricated an excuse to avoid trouble.

2 If you fabricate an object you make it from whatever materials are available. Example – Some of the parts broke and new ones had to be fabricated out of scrap iron.

3 If you fabricate an object you manufacture it for the first time. Example – The man was accused of fabricating banknotes.
