Victorian Christmas Decorations
Lush and luxurious are the key concepts in Victorian Christmas decorations. Rich colors, luxurious fabrics and splendid decorations on top makes this style the epitome of elegance in luxurious vacations.
The Victorian era (1837-1901) was known by strict rules of conduct that regulated everything ettiquette to morality, but the styles, fashions and tastes of the time were anything but puritanical. In Europe and the U.S. a burgeoning middle class were enjoying the economic effects of the industrial revolution, and delighted in displaying his newfound wealth.
At a time when even everyday objects often richly decorated, the holiday season was a year explosion of color, brightness, and the lush profusion rococo style. Here are some tips to give an air of Victorian decorating your party.
Use color to set the mood
The Victoria added color and used it everywhere, sometimes in combinations that we are now striking. But very bright colors (like red fire truck and green apple now associate with Christmas) is rarely in period decor. The colors that are typical of the era are deep jewel tones of red, blue, green and purple, gold and cream tones.
Tip: try to decorate your tree with ornaments in deep jewel tones, and replace tinsel garlands of bright burgundy striped wide red ribbon. Add accents with cream-colored bows and shiny gold beads or figurines.
Tip: if you do not care for the deep tones, try to go with the theme of cake. While not as historically accurate, clear tones of pink or powder blue mixed with cream and ecru and noted with a lot of gold can create an impressive look period. Strings of pearl beads for a dazzling accent to a holiday theme cake.
Many vegetation where it looks
Branches of pines and others were a core component of the holiday decoration during the period. Carefully prepared with fruits, flowers, candles and ornaments or garlands woven, green everywhere.
Tip: hang garlands of pine where you can – decorated on the stairs, around the doors and covered with mirrors and mantles. Wide ribbon woven fabric, silk, or decorative gold thick rope over the branches and decorated with bows, flowers, figurines, ornaments, and small packages wrapped.
Tip: the narrow, electrical Christmas lights are not really part of the holiday season decoration. But they are very much in keeping with the spirit of the decoration of the time, and using a little mini-lights of gold color creates a warm glow reminiscent of candlelight.
If in doubt, grace!
The Victorians had a real "more is better" ethic about the decor, especially when it came to the decorative ornamentation. The question was rare, " to be used? "but rather," How I can fit into the space? "This is particularly true of the Christmas decorations of the period.
Tip: To capture the mood of the time, go and decorate elegant yet everywhere. Be sure to hang garlands and decorating the tree. Make arrangements with flowers, candles, ornaments, ribbons and greenery on the tables, blankets, shirts, piano, shelves, each flat surface is eligible. Y I do not think in terms of "either or" – that "both and" in place. By creating an array, use bows and ornaments and fruit. Or pearls, flowers and lace. Or the arches ornaments, fruits, beads, flowers, and – well, you get the picture.
