Cheap Fabric By The Yard
Do you have mulch increase the chance of termites?
I am planning a project of wide curb appeal for the spring. I have two front yards – Separated by steps. Both are pending. Not real steep. One is approximately 9 'x 12'. The other is about 5 'x 12'. I'm thinking down some landscape fabric and fill the areas with mulch instead of rock. I think fertilizer is cheaper. Perhaps some large rocks. Some of sedges. First, I wonder how long it will delay my return? More importantly, someone told me once seen mulch increases the chance of termites? Is this true?
Mulch has always been the "source" of termites, mold, etc. The fact is that some mulch (cedar bark) have been used to reduce and eliminate these pests. Forget fiber. It is a pain. Start with a design plan to include all the seasons and the color. The cost will depend on your own personal opinion. Most designs begin at the front door with matching plantation model (read expensive). The remaining area of the bed can / should be a mixture of plants all year round and annual (read cheap). There are a number of products available to you that can control the pre-and post-emergent weeds without using the fiber. Any bed could be replaced seasonally or annually should not have fiber. For example, the plant annual flowers. The floor already has weed seeds in it and turn it over by the court fiber. Is the fibers terminate the exposure of weed seeds? A good triple shredded mulch in combination with an appropriate level or application Dyclomec avoid Preen weeds. Apply only after the final placement and water it in. The triple dash top soil will provide, within two / three years. If creatures you are concerned about a simple solution is to apply a granular (granular only) Sevin. This filters through the soil and eliminate most insects, including termites. Considering that his region is not noted plantations can not be recommended. My email is gjgjobs@yahoo.com. I've been a designer garden for thirty years and retired now. I would like to help you put the cheapest and the best plantations in their plans. I made my money going better, cheaper, easier and low maintenance. Good luck.
