what are some good fabric stores in nyc that is cheap but good quality?

please help!

Unfortunately unless you go to Harlem or the outer boroughs, good fabric just isn’t cheap in Manhattan. The few fabric stores that catered to the home sewer in the city, like Paterson Fabrics, shut down because, according to one shop owner I spoke to, “no one is sewing anymore”.

You can get many different kinds of fabrics in the Jackson Heights section of Queens. Most of them make saris but you can get most other kinds of fabrics there as well.

There’s a Michael’s Crafts Store in Long Island City in Queens, not far from Manhattan, but they have mainly quilting fabrics.

If you must find fabric in Manhattan then try B&J or Mood Fabrics. You may be able to catch a good sale or clearance item
