how can i make a basement celing out of fabric?

i used to clean houses, and one of them had like tons of yards of fabric lined up on the ceiling, and it looked pretty cool. has anyone ever done this and if so how did you do it?

My parents did a cheap version in the 80s by stapling sheets (or something similar) to the ceiling studs. They also carpeted the outside walls. It wasn’t fancy, but it was way better than block walls!
