how to: bay window curtains for a teenage room?

How would you put curtains up for a bay window? i want to make it cute and fun (like a patterned fabric) so nothing formal and sheer. i was thinking about having a valance on the two smaller windows and a drape type curtain that covers the window on the big window that i can pull back. do you think that would look stupid? oh, and im planning on keeping the mini blinds.

does anyone have any ideas?

heres what my window looks like:

this is kind of what i was thinking. bad? good?

I just had a look at your drawing and there is nothing wrong with having that application that you have envisioned.

There is SO many different ways to window dress, and you can do so many different styles.

I quite like the style you have chosen so if you stick with that it should be okay.

Bay Window = 3 windows.

Option: Pelmets / Valances

1. You can have three (3) individual pelmets or valances over each of the windows.

or

2. You can have one (1) pelmet going over the whole three (3) windows.

3. You can have pelmets or valances with no curtains at all or with curtains.

Curtains.

Decide first if the curtains are going to be short length curtains or long length curtains as that can change the look of the style also

Options

Curtains on each window.
(if you decide to go this way)

Option 1
Left window – 1 curtain as one piece.
Middle window – Curtain as 2 pieces
Right window – 1 curtain as one piece.

Option 2

Curtain as 2 pieces (going over whole 3 windows). This can go on a bendable aluminium track that goes over the 3 windows. If you do this style. I’d recommend putting a Valance or pelmet over the whole 3 windows so it covers the track. (or you can put the tracks separate too though)

Other options:

If you want to combine a sheer with a curtain you could also go that way.

One way you could do it:

Left Window – Sheer curtain only (as 1 piece)

MIddle window – Double Track – Front track (curtain as 2 pieces) Back Track (sheer as 1 piece)

Right window – Sheer curtain only (as 1 piece).

Just play around with a style until you like what you see.

Best way to decide is to go to a Curtain shop, and look at fabrics first. Sometimes the choice of fabric determines the style you have to have.

For example if you find a really stiff fabric you LOVE you might have to get it made into Pelmets (not valances as it might be too stiff).

There are SO many fabrics you can choose from and the best place to look is your local curtain shop as they would have a huge range of samples to choose from (don’t go to a department store as they only have their own brand).

You can Patterned fabrics, plain fabrics, patterned sheers, coloured sheers, plain sheers. There are heaps!!!

First Find the fabric. Then determine the style.

Good luck
