Custom Curtains Fabric

Do you think the charge for this sewing job was excessive?

I’m nearing the finish of a bathroom remodel I’m doing for my folks – my mother suggested we purchase fabric for the shower curtains… instead of trimming/hemming the fabric herself, she decided to entrust the job to a seamstress

The seamstress said she couldn’t give her a price up front to 1) sew together the two panels 2) hem the bottom and top 3) place button holes for the shower hooks

When my mother went by to pick it up today, she had tallied the charge to $350 – “Because it was a ‘custom job,” ‘ and despite the fact she has machines, it reportedly took her all day.

I don’t have experience with seamstresses, so I want to hear from you:
#1 – I thought any sewing job was by definition ‘custom’
#2 – Is that price excessive, or is it to be expected for the job

After discussing the issue for a while, she finally came down to a price of $209. However, she refused to give a receipt for the job because then she would have to charge the ‘surplus $132.’

Wow, I am going to take up sewing if you can make a profit like that. I know people who sew and that should have been at the most a 3 hour job. She ripped you off and she sounds like a money grabbing wench. Geez how much was the fabric? It better look really awesome for that kind of money. What a thief! Also, my friend makes custom made wedding dresses for people and dosen’t charge much more than that. And a wedding dress has tons and tons of detail work. Edit: I would print out these answers and send it to the blood sucker!
