Cutting Fabric For Quilting
![]()
The front is done. What do I do for the back side of a quilt?
Do you usually use one whole piece of fabric or do you cut up the back side in squares and sew it. Seems like a lot of work to do to the back what I did to the front.
The back is usually one solid piece. If the quilt is large, piece your backing and add a border edge that coordinates with the front (as it is likely to peek out at the edges). I use sheets — inexspensive and large — saves tons of time and money.
Quilts are only patterned on both sides to be reversible.
As a note, the back should be a little smaller than the front so it will drape over the bed, or it will start to sag under the quilt.
