Diy Fabric

Is it impractical to want to be the “perfect”, DIY mom?

Is it impractical to want to :

make homemade baby food
use cloth diapers
breast feed
purchase natural toys and fabrics
grow your own food
do your own pickling
raise chickens etc
(basically be self suffient)

AND raise your first baby?
I know my mom did a lot of that with me.. but maybe my expectations are too high?

Not impractical, but don’t expect to be perfect. Nobody’s perfect.
-Skip the baby food and go the baby led weaning route instead, more natural than shovelling mushy foods into their mouth.
-Why not make you’re own cloth diapers. It’s really not that hard if you have basic sewing skills. There are plenty of DIY sites out there to point you in the right direction.
-Growing your own food takes time. Depending on baby’s age at planting and harvesting it can be very time consuming. If baby isn’t mobile yet, you can lay them on a blanket and do what needs to be done. But when baby gets mobile, it’s way easier to pop them in a back carrier during nap time and work the land. Trying to weed/harvest a big garden while chasing a busy baby is no easy feat and triples the time it takes…at least. Most kids do want to help, but they might also pick the plants you’re growing along with the weeds.
-Canning, pickling, freezing involves some hot jars and burning possibilities and is best done during nap time. Prep work can be done when baby is awake, but expect him/her to want to eat half and chew on the other half.
-Raising animals is a great idea with children, it teaches responsibility and kindness IMO. The only down side is as children get older they might become attached to some animals and have a hard time dealing with butchering.

I’ve done the breastfeeding, cloth diaper making and using, gardening, canning and raising a child thing last year. Did it again this year while expecting number two. It can be done.
