Fabric And Leather Sofas

Do I need to buy the protection plan for my new leather furniture?

I’m in the market for a new leather sofa. The guy at the store advised me to get the “protection plan” for the leather, saying that it would guarantee the leather for several years. But really now, while stains/spills on a fabric sofa would be a problem, leather is pretty reslilient, isn’t it? Has anyone out there gotten the protection for their leather sofa and been glad for it?

Warranties sold by furniture shops are generally not worth the money you pay. They are very highly priced and have lots of small print which generally means they can wriggle out of most problems and tell you they do not cover it.
Most furniture shop make their money out of selling these policies. If you have a household contents insurance then this will cover you for as much as a warranty will so is really only repeating your insurance cover.
Leather is fairly resistant to stains etc depending on the type of leather you buy, you would be far better buying a protector for your leather which you can apply yourself or buy an independent leather protection plan that works in conjunction with your household insurance. There are a few companies that provide these and have no vested interest like the shops do.

If you are tempted to buy one make sure you read the small print very carefully
