Fabric Art Dolls

What is the best material to “suspend” objects in a jar?

I’m trying to create this set of science jars for an art project. In about five or six jars, I’m going to put a creepy doll (made of fabric), a fake finger, a ring, a dead spider–and a few other things. I want them to be suspended in a greenish or yellowish liquid. I was thinking resin, but that’s a little pricey. Then I thought maybe gel candle wax–but I didn’t know if that would hurt the fabric on the doll.

Do you have any suggestions?

* Yes, Jello is a good material for that. Cheap, and you can get it in clear and add any color you want. Whatever doesn’t work, you eat.
