Help me to renew this table?

I have a cool vintage 50s coffee table … is an ugly color and if I put a vintage 50 of fabric on top it … and then water-resistant … but I will not get a piece of glass cut to size … Is there another way to make it resistant waterproofing?

Have you thought about going to a hardware store and ask then to cut you a piece of plastic the size of the coffee table. It would be much cheaper than glass and we have one in our computer desk and are very happy with it. The thickness that is less than 1 / 4 inches. Naturally, it would be very hard and resistant to water and all is not age that you have to finish again.
