Fabric Dyes For Polyester

How can I dye a 100% polyester costume from red to black?

I purchased a red 100% polyester Halloween costume the other day and asked one of the girls (which said she has dyed her costumes for years) if it could be dyed black. She looked at the tag and then said “yes” as if it were going to be simple. After looking online, I have noticed nothing but articles stating that you have to do it using only disperse dye or having a professional do it. After discovering this, I called the costume shop and they said I cannot get an exchange or a refund! I have only 6 days and I don’t have the money to invest in another costume. The tag says it is 100% polyester. The fabric is a stretchy version of velvet and it has a train and trim that looks like lace. If you have any experience with this or any ideas, PLEASE HELP!! I haven’t tried anything yet…

Polyester is a difficult fabric to dye, but recommend using Rit brand dye use the darkest color available to dye Polyester this should help Good Luck !
