What plants or herbs, can be used to make yellow wool or any other tissue. What process is used too?

I writing a story and wondering what the flower or herb to be called, as in the old days used to die wool or cloth. As step (such as boiling grass or something)

The onion skins great work, you get a rusty yellow color when done – very nice.
