Fabric Houndstooth

Can I dye a patterned fabric?

I have a houndstooth skirt, and I love the cut of the skirt and the way it fits. However, the houndstooth pattern? Not so much. I hate the pattern. Is it possible to dye the patterned skirt all one color without messing up the skirt?
It is a light grey/black small patterned houndstooth.
It is also a polyester (64%)/rayon (34%)/spandex (2%) blend.

Depends on the materials in the skirt (some skirts are not made with all components able to withstand the heat of dyeing) and on the fiber content of at least the face fabric. No way to tell without a whole lot more information than you’ve given us. And the houndstooth pattern (which is commonly used in couture clothing, btw) will show through a bit.
