Fabric Suitable For Upholstery

what kind of weight/label of fabric should I use for a futon cover?

I want to use wool fabric but there are a lot of specifications I don’t understand like
suitable for upholstery
bottom weight
suitable for jackets, pants (are these durable enough?)
16 oz, 8 oz, 4oz,
heavyweight, mediumweight, lightweight
thread count
etc.

I mean, can’t a lightweight fabric also hold up as a futon cover? (i’m talking about the inside one that is holding the stuffing)
I would also like to know where to buy. any internet shops? or shop names.
thank you.
also, if I buy by the yard, the width of the fabric will be too short to make an entire futon without stitching pieces together. are there any fabrics that large?

Just use a fitted matress cover and fitted sheets. If you want to make a complete cover get 2 flat sheets and sew them together.
