Quality Fabrics Online
Anybody still make clothes? If so, are you as exasperated as me by the lack of available quality fabric?
There used to be loads of good fabric shops. I could go to about seven easily in the town that I used to live in. All but one have closed down, and that one sells rubbish. There’s none at all in my current my home town. There’s three market stalls but what they sell is ‘tat.’. I’ve just found some online fabric shops, but I hesitate as it wouldn’t be the same as going into a shop. I miss the smell of the fabrics, the sight of all the gorgeous colours and handling various fabrics. When I stopped dressmaking I didn’t figure on this feeling that I’m missing out on something that is my blood, and that I need! How do you feel about it, and if you still make clothes, where do you buy fabrics?
Unfortunately, people started demanding cheap fabrics, so the local stores stopped selling nice ones, and then the independent shops dropped out altogether. You’ll have to travel to get good fabric anymore, and of course pay the real price – but someone who knows quality, knows that it costs money. I suggest buying on the internet for most of the year, but making one trip a year to Honk Kong or New York if you can afford it.
