Gap in my flying geese pattern blanket?

My mother is making a wedge pattern quilt, and can not get that line up perfectly. The final product should be 2 1 / 2 by 4 1 / 2. The magazine says it is using to align the smaller triangles in the bottom of the largest, but is ending with too much extra fabric at the top, so that the point of the triangle does not touch the bottom of the next. Any ideas on what to do?

Make a scant 1 / 4 "seam keep the size of the blocks that are intended to be. There is also the possibility of an error in the measurements and / or instructions – I thought it to be and I had to do a new template. I make a sample block before cutting all the blocks.
