My Husband Is an Appliance Technician….

When you set your temperature selector to any setting it is simply a heat cycle timer. When you set your dryer on high heat, your dryer be it gas or electric will turn on the heater until it reaches temperature for a certain amount of time with gas it is probably around 45 seconds. The temperature is controlled by a thermostat that is not adjustable. Usually it gets to around 160-190 degrees coming out of the exhaust. If you set it on low heat, the dryer will cycle the heater to the SAME temperature only it will cycle the heater for less time, usually 15-28 seconds with gas.
So the temperature selector controls the amount of time your clothes will be at the hottest temperature. The shorter the better when it comes to shrinkable clothes. I would put your dryer on low heat and timed for about 20 minutes. At the end of the cycle see how wet the clothes are and add some more time if they are not dry enough. Otherwise if they are just a bit humid hang them up to air dry. This will keep your clothes safe and unshrunken. Although, this will take some time.
Use common sense in other words! Hope this helps
